March 27, 2007 Elk Rummage Sale!! Charlie Acker of The Mendocino Beacon The Greenwood Civic Club will hold its 20th Annual Elk Rummage Sale on Saturday and Sunday March 31 and April 1 from 9am to 4pm at The Greenwood Community Center. Antiques, collectibles, clothes, books, house wares, furniture tools and more will be sold at bargain prices. Proceeds from the annual event support community projects, the children's summer program and student scholarships.
March 25, 2007 St. Anthony's Easter Benefit Carrie Lanyon, Staff Easter Day, April 8 - Mendocino Hotel: St. Anthony's Easter Benefit. 2:00 P.M.: Community Easter Egg Hunt ages 0-7 years (meet in hotel lobby); 2:30 P.M.: Stroll from front of hotel to end of Main St. with Father Lou and Bagpiper Peter Kapp to sing hymns and receive special Easter blessing; 3:30-7:30 P.M. Easter dinner; no host bar (Adults $48; Teens pasta $18; Childs pasta $10); 6:00 - 6:15 P.M.: Adult Easter hunt (with dinner), ages 21 and up.
March 18, 2007 Eco-Tourism Conference Carrie Lanyon, Staff You are invited to attend the Mendocino County Nature and Eco- Tourism Conference, March 29 and 30, at the Hill House Inn in Mendocino. There will be two days of lectures, expert panels, group discussions and field trips. The focus will include building county-widepartnerships. Bob Garrison of Nature Tourism Planning, and Karen Killebrew of California Watchable Wildlife, will lead the interactive forum. On day 2 of the event, they will take attendees into Big River State Park by water, foot, horseback and bike to teach assessment of outdoor settings as nature tourism destinations. March 10, 2007 St. Patrick's Day Dinner & Dance Carrie Lanyon, Staff March 17, 2007, is the 114th annual St. Patrick's Dinner and Dance at the Greenwood Community Center in Elk. Starts with Mass at 1:00pm at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elk. Dinner from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Dance 9:00pm to midnight. Dinner: adults $15; children under 12 $6.00. Dinner price includes dance. Sponsored by the Elk Altar Society.
March 4, 2007 Disaster Services Training Carrie Lanyon, Staff Come to the Disaster Services Training Friday, Saturday, Sunday March 9, 10 and/or 11 at the Greenwood Community Center in Elk to find out about the role of Red Cross in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters. Learn to work in a shelter and provide assistance to victims of a local disaster or a major event anywhere in the United States by taking some or all of the FREE classes. To register contact: Joyce Adams at 577-7603 or Joyce@sonomacounty.redcross.org. Current Red Cross staff members and residents of Mendocino & Sonoma Counties who wish to become staff members of the Red Cross should attend this training. If you want to help others in California or the U.S., this is the first step. The introduction class and submitting application paperwork are requirements for people who want to become Red Cross staff members. Class Schedule: Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Introduction to Red Cross & Disaster Services This class is a prerequisite for all other courses. It is possible to take an online class to fulfill this requirement at http://www.redcross.org. Access the link for Disaster Services.
